IRS Announces 2018 Tax Start Date – UPDATED
The IRS has just announced that it will begin accepting Personal Tax Returns starting Monday, January 29th. Normally this date occurs much earlier in January but given all the changes in the new law, The Service is apparently allowing for additional time to get systems ready.
The IRS also announced that the deadline for filing 2017 Personal Returns will be Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Filing an automatic extension will push this date out to October 2018. Remember that tax payments are still due in April to avoid penalties. And in some cases, payments may be due as early as January.
UPDATE: The IRS just announced that Business Returns (1065, 1120S, 1120, etc.) will be accepted beginning Monday, January 8, 2018. The filing deadline for pass-through businesses (1065, 1120S) is Thursday, March 15, 2018. Automatic extensions are available to push this date out to September 2018.
